Private & Group Lessons
Introduction to the Violin is a first year program for ages 5-7.
The program consists of one 30 minute private lesson per week
and one 30 minute group lesson per week.
Both parent and child will discover the joy and excitement of learning the violin utilizing basic Suzuki principles. The first four weeks of instruction are dedicated to the parent alone. During this time the parent will learn the rudiments of violin technique. Topics to be covered include: ear training, the proper care and handling of the violin, tuning the violin and holding the violin and bow. An in-depth discussion of the Suzuki triangle (parent, teacher, child) will be introduced along with suggestions as to how to create a nurturing musical environment at home. The success of the young beginner is dependant upon the cooperative efforts of the parent and teacher. After the first four weeks the student will begin to attend lessons along with the parent. As the students' physical and mental stamina increase so will the time devoted to them in their lesson. Eventually the student will become the sole focus of the private lesson, with a few minutes at the end of each lesson being saved for consultation of parent and teacher about practice techniques and goals for the week's practice.
Begining Violin & Viola (ages 8+)
A continuation from Introduction, this program will focus on the fundamentals of violin technique in a private and group setting. Each week a student will recieve 1 45min private lesson and 1 45min group lesson.
Advanced Violin & Viola (ages 12+)
Advanced violin and/or viola is a continuation from Beginning.
This program is designed to specifically answer the needs of the more advanced player. Through the use of advanced musical concepts, ear training, and exploration of harmony the student will gain a deeper insight into playing as well as prepare him/her to perform in more advanced ensembles.
Group Lessons
Group lessons are a supplement to the private lesson and they prepare the child student both physically and musically to play the violin. At first students will use "pre-instruments" made from cardboard. This will help develop good posture and bow hold. Using traditional folk songs like “Twinkle, Twinkle” students will listen, clap, and march. This class reinforces the work done in the private setting and creates incentive, stimulation, and the foundation for beginning and advanced violin.
Chamber Music Coaching
Students that excel in their learning will have the opportunity to play in small chamber ensembles. This experience enhances the students understanding of music and music appreciation as well as developing group and individual leadership skills. Advanced groups will have the opportunity to perform in local competitions for scholarships in music.
Music Theory
Music Theory is designed to isolate the specific concepts behind the building blocks of music; Melody, Harmony and Rhythm. In a Private and/or Group setting, students will explore music in a fun and entertaining environment.
